Welcome back to another installment of “Last Week in Geekdom” where I comb the internet for all the news you need to know so you don’t have to. I’m finally back after a week of dealing with a bad cold, and will hopefully have more content for you this week. In other news: Comiket is this weekend, and they have so far attracted 530,000 people; comic writer Jai Nitz has been accused of multiple sexual assaults on women at the University of Kansas; and a No-Deal Brexit may mean an increase in prices for comic readers in the UK. Top Anime and Manga News
The International Otaku Expo Association is planning an Otaku Summit 2020 in Tokyo next year to correspond with the 2020 Olympics. This will be the first summit since 2015. The event will feature conferences, exhibitions, and seminars about otaku culture.
The Comic Market (Comiket) 96 has attracted 200,000 people on the third day, making the total at 530,000 people so far. With temperatures up to 96 degrees, Anime News Network reports three people were taken to the hospital with apparent heatstroke. The last day of the convention is tomorrow.

Top Comics News
Comic book writer Jai Nitz has come under fire recently for allegations leveled against him for sexual assault and battery. Nitz was recently banned from the University of Kansas after multiple women reported being sexually assaulted or harassed by Nitz. No charges have been brought against Nitz by the police. Nitz has since said he is stepping away from comics and public life for the time being.
DC Co-Publisher and Chief Creative Officer Jim Lee has opened up about the state of DC’s digital comic sales, saying that they have ultimately hit a plateau. After the release of DC’s new subscription service DC Universe, Lee says he has seen it thriving while the individual comic book sales have hit a wall.
A potential No-Deal Brexit could mean bg changes for the UK comic book scene including an increase in prices for imported comics. As the British Pound continues to crash, distributor Diamond UK has announced it will be increasing the prices on its comics due to the increase in costs of shipping and distribution.
DC Comics has teamed up with WriteGirl to provide workshops for young girls on the comic book creative process. A workshop was hosted at their headquarters earlier this month that allowed girls from underrepresented or underserved communities to work with DC writers on the comic book process.
